Best Gay Beaches in France

The south of France is a popular choice among gay and lesbian tourists and it should be no surprise. Provence and Languedoc attract masses of visitors because of their breath-taking landscapes, clear waters, delicious food and beautiful beaches. The landscape is covered in olive groves, lavender fields and vineyards. The sun shines almost all year long making it an ideal destination no matter the season. Here are a few selected and recommended beaches:

L’Espiguette Beach, Camargue
As it is still not entirely developed, outside the season it might be hard to find something to eat or drink so you might want to be prepared. However, because there aren’t many buildings, the beach is unspeakably wild. Its wide, long and sandy beaches are the main attributes to this wonderful place.
To find the beach, follow the signs to the “Montpellier Méditerranée” airport from the centre of Montpellier on the D62 road. Then head for Carnon, Grau du Roi and you’ll find yourself in l’Espiguette.

Plage des Aresquiers, Montpellier
An even more secluded, sandy beach since it is protected from any construction but it has plenty of free parking, toilets, showers and changing stations. You can also rent chairs and find yourself something to eat at a reasonable price. It is peaceful and quiet and shell collectors will find themselves buckets of treasures.
From the city get onto the N112 road and head for Sete. When you pass Mireval and see a sign for Vic la Gardiole turn left and drive until you get to a bridge. Take your first left and follow the rocky path.

The Maguelone Beach, Montpellier
This beach attracts mainly naturists and gay visitors. It may be slightly narrower but it is still wonderful. There is one bar and public toilets.
Drive on the D986, then exit onto the D185 to Villeneuve-les-Maguelone. There are signs to the car park and then you need to walk over the bridge across the lagoon.

St Tropez
Pampelonne beach is the famous celebrity hangout spot with a three mile long sandy bay wonderful waves and plenty of bars, clubs and restaurants like de Voile Rouge, Club 55, Aqua Club frequented by gay tourists, La Cabane Bambou and plenty more!
There are a few other, smaller beaches north and south-west of Saint-Tropez if you want a break from all the glamour and only a walking distance away from the village.
