Zurich
The wealthiest city in Europe, Zurich surprises with the liveliness of its gay scene. Most of the gay bars and clubs will be in Kreis 1 (District 1) in old town around Niederdorf Strasse, east of the Limmat. A more alternative gay scene can be found in Kreis 4 and a few dance clubs in Kreis 5 near the Escher-Wyss square.
The annual events in Zurich are the Gay & Lesbian Film Festival Pink Apple in spring, the culture month-long festival Warmer Mai, Zurich Gay Pride in June, the Queer Crossing of the Lake Zurich in summer, the White Party in May and the Black Party in November.
Street Parade takes place every second Saturday of August (world's largest techno parade) which is a demonstration for freedom, love and tolerance attended by a million people. The route goes along Lake Zurich.
Badi Tiefenbrunnen is a popular gay beach located at Lake Zurich. It is open from mid-May to mid-September from 9am to 8pm depending on the weather. The address is Lido, Bellerivestrasse 200-214 and you can get there by tram or bus to Wildbachstrasse stop. The entrance fee is around 7 €. Next to the restaurant in front of the changing cubicles is where most of the body-watching sport takes place!
The other famous gay beach is the Werdinsel, a small island on the Limmat river. There is a nude area also frequented by gays, however there is no cruising as the place is often checked by the police. To get there you need to take a bus or tram to Tüffenwies station and the address is Zürich-Höngg.
